Assemble Advertising and Music Talent to Foster a Diversified Creative Industry in Hong Kong
(27 September 2021, Hong Kong) Organized by the Hong Kong Association of Interactive Marketing (“AIM”), with Create Hong Kong (“CreateHK”) of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (“HKSAR”) as the Lead Sponsor, the Microfilm Production Support Scheme (Music) (“Support Scheme”) has come to its 9th edition. To continue cultivating outstanding creative talent in the advertising production and music sectors, the Support Scheme strives to build a platform for fostering more cooperation between the two sectors in Hong Kong.
With the concerted efforts of Hong Kong people, the local epidemic situation has been stabilized recently. It also enables the Support Scheme to return its matching and launching ceremony back to the physical format after two years. The 9th Microfilm Production Support Scheme (Music) Matching and Launching Ceremony (“Launching Ceremony”) was held at the InnoCenter, Kowloon Tong today. The organizer was delighted to have the presence of Ms. Jersey YUEN, Assistant Head of CreateHK, Mr. Ralph SZETO, Chairman of the AIM, and Ms. Flora KWONG, Committee Member of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (Hong Kong Group) Limited, to kick-off the 9th Support Scheme at the ceremony. They were joined by representatives of the advertising production companies, directors, and the singers/groups/bands (singers) participating in the project.
The 9th Support Scheme is divided into the Tier 1 “Advertising Production Start-ups” and the Tier 2 “Small Advertising Production Enterprises” with a total of 32 subsidized quotas. It provides comprehensive support, including funding and training, to the participating local advertising production companies for them to produce original microfilms together with the singers.
The organizer announced the list of participating advertising production companies, directors, and singers at the ceremony. On the same occasion, a matching event was held to draw lots for pairing up the advertising production start-ups and the singers selected to participate in the Tier 1 “Advertising Production Start-ups” of the 9th Support Scheme. The 10 production teams participating in the Tier 2 “Small Advertising Production Enterprises” also made their debut at the ceremony and announced their upcoming original microfilms to be produced under the Support Scheme.
With the Support Scheme’s comprehensive support, the participating teams will receive funding, among others, for producing their original microfilms. The advertising production enterprises participating in the Tier 1 “Advertising Production Start-ups” will receive a maximum of HK$120,000 each, while those in the Tier 2 “Small Advertising Production Enterprises” will receive a maximum of HK$220,000 each. They will also receive comprehensive training ranging from scriptwriting, directing, production, post-production to the latest digital technologies such as Virtual Reality (VR), Computer Graphics (CG), and Augmented Reality (AR), in support of the industry’s development in innovative technology.
Their microfilms produced under the 9th Support Scheme will further be promoted via different channels, including the Hong Kong International Film and TV Market (FILMART) 2022, TVs, the Internet, social media platforms, and the Support Scheme’s official website, etc.
To recognize the outstanding microfilms produced by these subsidized production teams. the following awards will be presented by the Support Scheme, namely the “Best Microfilm Production Awards,” the “Best Microfilm Actor Award” and the “Best Microfilm Actress Award” (each with its Gold, Silver, and Bronze Awards), as well as the “Best Microfilm Screenplay Award”, the “Best Cinematography Award”, and the “Best Art Direction Award”, while winners of the “Most Popular Microfilm Award” will be selected by public voting. The winning teams with outstanding performance will be further recommended for participation in international microfilm or short film-related competitions.
The Support Scheme aims to cultivate local advertising production start-ups and small-scale advertising production enterprises for them to master the techniques in microfilm production. It has been widely acclaimed since its first launch in 2013 and successfully building up a platform for discovering emerging directors and bridging advertising production teams and singers for further cooperation. Over the years, by dint of the original microfilm production, the participating advertising production companies and their directors have gained favour from different clients and received more job opportunities by taking part in other advertising, TV, and even movie productions. At the same time, the participating singers have enhanced their visibility by providing their songs for use in the microfilms produced under the Support Scheme and performing in these microfilms. In turn, they have been benefitted from further promotion and more performance opportunities.
The details of the two tiers and the lists of participating advertising production companies and singers of the 9th Support Scheme are outlined as below:
